On Thursday, January 9th at 2pm, Jefferson City West Side Business Association and Jefferson City West Rotary Club will host a groundbreaking ceremony at Service Park.
Jefferson City West Side Business Association and Jefferson City West Rotary have jointly adopted the roadside park on Missouri Boulevard next to Staples. The two organizations partnered together in 2021 to clean up the space and build picnic tables. In 2022, the group received grant funding from Rotary International to build a walking path, and that work started this week, thanks to All-n-One Outdoor Solutions and Capital Quarries.
“This has been a great joint project, and we’re excited to take it one step further,” says Jeff DeLong, JCWSBA. “The impact of this project has grown exponentially over the last two years, thanks to the generous support of several local businesses. We’re excited to create this space to fill a need that we saw on the west end of Jefferson City.”
Originally nicknamed “the park that’s not a park,” JCWSBA and JC West Rotary have named the space Service Park, to recognize those that perform service every day in our community.
“This project is such an example of Jefferson City,” says Natalie Newville, JC West Rotary. “We saw a need, and were able to connect with a variety of groups to make it happen. We’re so grateful for everyone’s support and look forward to more development in this spot in the future!”
Future projects include more picnic tables and benches, a pavilion, and recreation areas.
